WHAT WE TREAT

Back pain is rarely just back pain

Pain in your spine often shows up as leg pain, numbness in your hands, headaches, or shoulder tension. We identify the source and treat it — not just the symptom.

Disc Herniation

A bulging or ruptured disc compressing nearby nerves — causing local pain and radiating symptoms down the leg or arm

Sciatica

Compression of the sciatic nerve producing sharp, shooting pain from the lower back through the hip and down the leg.

Muscle Strain

Overstretched or torn muscle fibers from lifting, sudden movement, or chronic overuse — producing localized pain and spasm.

Facet Joint Dysfunction

Inflammation or stiffness in the small joints connecting vertebrae — causing localized pain that worsens with movement.

Postural Strain

Cumulative load from desk work, commuting, or repetitive tasks creating chronic muscle imbalance and joint stress.

Spinal Stenosis

Narrowing of the spinal canal creating pressure on the spinal cord or nerves — producing pain, numbness, or weakness.

OUR APPROACH

How chiropractic care addresses back pain

Chiropractic care restores normal movement to the spinal joints and reduces the nerve pressure and muscle tension that drives most back pain. The goal is not symptom management — it is correcting the underlying structural problem so your body can heal.

At Zock Family Chiropractic, each visit is built around your specific presentation. Dr. Zock and Dr. Lauren evaluate the pattern of your pain, your movement restrictions, and your history before any adjustment is made. Care plans are built around what will actually help — not a standard protocol applied to every patient.

  • Restores movement to restricted spinal joints
  • Reduces pressure on compressed nerves
  • Relieves muscle tension and spasm
  • Supports the body’s natural healing process
  • Non-invasive — no medication, no surgery
  • No program commitments or package requirements

YOUR FIRST VISIT

What to expect when you come in

Most first visits are 30–45 minutes. Follow-up visits are typically 15 minutes. There are no required package purchases — you receive the care you need and return when it helps.

1

Initial Examination

Dr. Zock or Dr. Lauren reviews your history, evaluates your movement patterns, and identifies the source of your pain — not just the location.

2

Diagnosis + Care Plan

A specific care plan is built around your condition, your lifestyle, and your goals. You’ll know what’s being treated and why before any adjustment is made.

3

Treatment

Soft tissue work comes first, followed by spinal adjustment. Laser therapy, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation may be added when clinically appropriate.

4

Progress Check

Your response to care is evaluated regularly. The plan adjusts as you improve — there is no fixed program that continues past the point it’s helping you.

Straightforward answers to what patients ask most before their first visit for back pain.

Most patients with acute back pain notice meaningful improvement within 3 to 6 visits. Chronic or complex conditions may take longer. Dr. Zock and Dr. Lauren evaluate your progress regularly and adjust the care plan based on how you’re responding — there is no fixed timeline or required number of visits.

Yes, for most patients. Chiropractic care is non-invasive and does not involve medication or surgery. Your provider will evaluate the cause and severity of your pain before any treatment is performed. If imaging or a specialist referral is needed, that will be part of the recommendation.

For many patients — yes. Laser therapy is most effective when inflammation is a significant component of the pain, such as with disc herniation, sciatica, or chronic soft tissue conditions. It is a separate, purchasable service recommended by Dr. Zock or Dr. Lauren when clinically appropriate for your specific condition.

This depends on the cause, severity, and how long you’ve had the pain. Acute pain often responds in 4 to 8 visits. Chronic conditions or those with disc involvement may require more. Zock Family Chiropractic does not require you to purchase a package upfront — you are evaluated and scheduled based on your actual needs.

Yes. Zock Family Chiropractic accepts UPMC, Aetna, Highmark Blue Cross and most major insurance plans cover chiropractic care for back pain. Contact the office to confirm your specific coverage and any visit limits under your plan before your first appointment.
